Sowilo

The sixteenth rune of the Elder Futhark. Sowilo ends the second Aett on a high note. It brings us out of the dark night of the soul which Hagalaz invited us into; Sowilo is the light at the end of the tunnel, the culmination of our efforts. Sowilo represents the sun, its clarity and its blessings for us. Sowilo brings success, the victory we win for ourselves and what we care about. Sowilo empowers and rejuvenates, releases stagnation, and brings us into our healing wholeness. After this Aett’s journey, it is hard won and well-earned. 

Ginger

Ginger is commonly used for aid in digestion and circulation, but that isn’t all it helps get going! It’s great for also moving stuck emotions and manifestation work; it brings movement, power, vitality, passion, and forward movement with the fire of earth. 

Garnet

Garnet has been known for thousands of years. In Greek mythology, it is named for pomegranate seeds, and so it’s not only associated with the story of Persephone and Hades, but was also sacred to Hera, goddess of marriage! Garnet has a legacy with relationships and sexuality as a result. It’s considered an intense stone of willpower and vitality—but not only that confidence and charisma, but the ability to share of oneself and be generous as a result.

Ansuz

The fourth rune of the first aett of the Elder Futhark. ⁣It is the breath of life itself, imbuing vitality; it is voice and breath and mouth. It is speech and song, thought and memory, reason and inspiration. All of these traits are associated with the god Odinn and this correlation is canonical with the Icelandic rune poem! Ansuz is also associated in passing with his ravens, Huginn and Muninn. Some say Ansuz looks like half a feather! 

Uruz

The second rune of the first aett of the Elder Futhark. ⁣It is strength of will and of body; it is linked with life force. It’s also associated with manifestation, vitality, stamina, action, assertion, and primal instincts. This rune is occasionally associated with the cosmic cow, Audumbla, though the rune poems don’t state the correlation. ⁣
